New films opening at Cinema Art Theater July 8
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater, starting Friday, July 8, will present “Downton Abbey: A New Era,” “Lost Illusions” and National Theatre Live’s “King Henry V.”
“Downton Abbey: A New Era” is an entertaining drama and sequel to the popular 2019 film “Downton Abbey,” which follows the Crawley family in the last years of the roaring ‘20s. The beloved cast reunites for a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley’s (Maggie Smith) gorgeous, newly inherited villa. The film stars include Michelle Dockery, Hugh Dancy and Elizabeth McGovern.
“Lost Illusions” is an intriguing drama, an adaption of the classic novel by Honoré de Balzac that follows a young man who tries to stay true to his dreams despite obstacles along his way.
In 1821, Lucien de Rubempré arrives in Paris as a sensitive, idealistic poet determined to write a reputation-making novel. Instead, he finds himself swept into journalism, whose influence and reach is booming with the help of the printing press. Under the mentorship of cynical editor Étienne Lousteau, Lucien agrees to write rave theater reviews for bribes, achieving material success at the expense of his conscience.
In National Theatre Live’s production of “King Henry V,” Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) plays the title role in Shakespeare’s thrilling study of nationalism, war and the psychology of power. Fresh to the throne, King Henry V launches England into a bloody war with France. When his campaign encounters resistance, this inexperienced new ruler must prove he is fit to guide the country into battle.
National Theatre Live admission is $18 for members, $20 for nonmembers, and $15 for students with ID and youth 15 and under.
Admission for “Downton Abbey” and “Lost Illusions” is $9 for members and $11.50 for nonmembers.
