Sussex County offices closed MLK Day
Sussex County government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Lewes City Hall, BPW closed Jan. 21
The offices of Lewes City Hall and the Board of Public Works will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash and recycling will be picked up one day later. Offices will reopen with normal hours Tuesday, Jan. 22. 

Eastern Sussex Republicans to meet Jan. 21
The past and future of Sussex County is the topic for a 7 p.m. meeting Monday, Jan. 21, of the Eastern Sussex Republican Club at the Manor House at Sussex East, on the Georgetown-Lewes Highway. Speakers will include Sussex County Councilman IG Burton III, and Joe T. Conway, president of th Sussex Economic Development Action Committee Inc., and past Sussex County administrator.

Dewey commissioners’ meeting set for Jan. 21
Dewey Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21. Commissioners will discuss and possibly vote on fund, to address town meeting audio and live-streaming, and to video and/or audio record all board, commission and committee meetings. Commissioners will review and discuss the quarterly military surplus program inventory and report, and discuss the process to sell surplus equipment by April 11.

Commissioners will discuss and possibly vote to authorize the town manager to issue an RFP for an architect/engineer to produce plans for a new town hall.

Sussex council not meeting Jan. 22
In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Jan. 22. The next meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the county administration building.

Lewes Parks and Rec meets Jan. 22
Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at city hall.  Chatham Marsch will make a presentation on phragmites control. The group will discuss the final layout, design and budget for the George H.P. Smith Park playground. They will consider a request from Art in Bloom to install a bronze plaque in Otis Smith Park. Lewes Art Committee to meet Jan. 22
The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at city hall. The group will discuss its budget request for the city’s fiscal year 2020 budget. They will also discuss the committee’s mission and review the group’s action plan. For more information, call 302-645-7777.

Milton committee to meet Jan. 22
Milton Sustainability Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Milton library to discuss whether to update the town’s letter against seismic testing off the coast of Delaware. The town, like Cape Region towns Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach, spoke out against seismic testing, a surveying technique used to map the ocean floor prior to drilling for oil. The town’s stance against seismic testing was first drafted in 2016.

At town council’s Jan. 7 meeting, Councilman Charlie Fleetwood asked whether the town should update or resubmit its letter in light of the renewed possibility of offshore drilling off the coast. Council agreed to send the matter to the committee for further study before moving forward.

Lewes byway committee to meet Jan. 23
The Historic Lewes Byway Committee will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23, at city hall. The group will discuss the New Road Master Plan project, preliminary plan reviews, and new projects along byway roads outside the city of Lewes. For more information, call 302-645-7777.
