Cape school board to meet Jan. 24
The Cape Henlopen school board will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at H.O. Brittingham Elementary. The board may take possible action to approve middle school girls’ lacrosse and schematic designs for Shields Elementary. The board will discuss the 2019-20 district calendar, a temporary change to school start times at Milton Elementary, improvement efforts for SAT preparation and major capital project updates.
 
Dewey budget committee to meet Jan. 25
The Dewey Beach budget and finance committee will meet at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Avenue. Members will select a committee secretary and schedule meetings for the next two months, including a joint meeting with town commissioners. Members will discuss year-to-date budget performance, the status of the next fiscal year budget and new revenue stream recommendations.

Rehoboth charter changes progressing
A bill changing Rehoboth’s charter to limit voting to individuals, while at the same time relaxing some voter registration and eligibility requirements to bring them in line with state law, has been reported out of committee. House Bill 34 was introduced Jan. 7 to the House Administration Committee. It was reported out of the committee Jan. 16 on its merits, 4-0. The bill clarifies the one person, one vote rule for all elections – annual municipal, annexation, and borrowing and bond issuance elections; reduces the residency requirement for voter eligibility from six months to 30 days; defines condominium and domicile; changes the voter registration deadline to 30 days prior to the annual municipal election; reduces the amount of time nonresident property owners have to own property in town before they can vote to three months; and changes the process to purge individuals from the books of registered voters.

Rehoboth Bandstand meeting set Jan. 25
The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand, Convention Center and Special Events Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. As of press deadline Monday, Jan. 21, no agenda had been posted on the town website. License agreement approved for Lake Ave.
By a 4-2 vote, Rehoboth commissioners approved a license agreement with the owner of 45 and 45 ½ Lake Ave. during a meeting Jan. 18. The agreement allows owner Constantine Malmberg, of 45 Lake LLC, the continued use of four parking spaces on the Third Street side of the property that protrude into city right of way. The licensing agreement calls for the owner to pay $1 per square foot of space licensed – 315 – per year. The owner is remodeling the former Bad Hair Day property, which has two buildings. The building fronting Lake Avenue will have commercial on the first floor and residential on the second. The building fronting Third Street will be residential. The agreement allows the property owner to achieve code compliance, which is two parking spots for each residential dwelling.
