Sussex to consider Big Oyster rezoning May 14
At its April 25 meeting, the Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a rezoning application for a parcel off Kings Highway just outside Lewes city limits that would pave the way for expansion of Big Oyster Brewery.
Jeff Kat LLC of Rehoboth Beach has filed an application to rezone 1.3 acres from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to C-3 heavy commercial; this is part of a larger parcel owned by L.W. and J.T. Mitchell Family LP. Big Oyster has plans to add parking and storage on the property, which is located behind the restaurant, First Baptist Church and Lane Builders.
Sussex County Council’s public hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. If approved by council, plans for the site must be reviewed and approved by the planning and zoning commission.
Lewes planners to meet May 15
Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, at city hall.
The group will discuss the development review process, including pending development applications and the preliminary consent process.
They will also receive reports on the Lewes Waterfront Preserve application and likely make a recommendation on the proposal of a major subdivision at the corner of Anglers Road and Market Street. Lewes Police meet and greet May 14
The Lewes Police Department will hold a meet and greet from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, at the Rollins Community Center on Adams Avenue. Rehoboth utility rates meeting set May 16
The Rehoboth working group studying utility rates in Rehoboth has scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Thursday, May 16, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion of a proposed rate structure for water and wastewater rates. Special Rehoboth board meeting set May 17
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The purpose of this special meeting is to address the ongoing BeachWalk issue. The agenda calls for an executive session related to BeachWalk and then the possible adoption of an ordinance amending code by adding a new section relating to the applicability of two ordinances to pending applications.

Dewey budget committee to meet May 17
The Dewey Beach Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will discuss April financial results, any updates to the 2019 fiscal year results and new revenue stream opportunities. Members will also possibly vote to recommend to town council an appropriate level of town surplus funds to achieve and maintain.
Rehoboth commissioner meeting set May 17
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled their regular monthly meeting for 3 p.m., Friday, May 17, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on creating an administrative variance provision within the zoning code, and a possible vote on an amendment to code related to head-in parking at angled or perpendicular parking spaces.
