Dewey sets executive session for June 13
Dewey Beach commissioners have scheduled an executive session at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, June 13. On the agenda for the executive session, which is not open to the public, is discussion of personnel and the content of documents. The agenda, posted on the town website, states the documents are excluded from the definition of public record.

Milton preservation committee to meet June 11
Milton Historic Preservation Committee will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Milton library, to hear two requests for improvements to structures in the town’s historic district. Laura Jones, 419 Chestnut St., is making a request to put an addition on an existing structure. The second request, by Gandhi Hurwitz and Mae Lucier of 111 Federal St., is to replace the porch decking, roofing material and exterior siding.

Milton Water Committee to meet June 12
Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at Milton library, to discuss the status of the town’s current water projects. Among the projects to be discussed are the Wagamon’s water main loop, the Shipbuider’s Village well and treatment plant, water main upgrades at Atlantic Avenue and Chestnut Street, planning for a water main extension at Sam Lucas Road and upgrades to the Chandler Street treatment facility. The committee will also discuss rates and fees, and a plan for backflow and cross-connections.

Rehoboth commissioner workshop set June 10
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, June 10, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for further discussion on the Grove Park Canal Access project, continued discussion of additional borrowing authority for the wastewater treatment plant, a discussion on more no-smoking areas within city limits and a discussion on changes to city code related to posting signs on public property. Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for Monday, June 10, immediately following the conclusion of the workshop. Rehoboth utility rates working group to meet June 12
The Rehoboth working group studying utility rates in Rehoboth has scheduled a meeting for 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion of a proposed rate structure for water and wastewater rates. Rehoboth lodging tax bill moves another step
A bill giving Rehoboth the power to implement up to a 3 percent lodging tax was reported out of the House Administration Committee June 5. The bill, Senate Bill 86, was put on the June 6 agenda to be voted on before the full House, but the vote was not taken by press deadline. If it passes through the House, Gov. John Carney still needs to sign it into law before Rehoboth commissioners could implement the tax.

Cluster ordinance on Sussex council agenda June 11
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a possible vote on an amendment to the county cluster subdivision ordinance, which would make superior-design standards mandatory and not optional. Lewes city council set to meet June 10
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, June 10, at city hall. The group will discuss the possible sale of Tennessee Avenue lots; receive a presentation from Lewes In Bloom regarding their trip to Cervia, Italy; discuss the development of a capital spending plan; and schedule a public hearing for the major subdivision of property at the corner of Anglers Road and East Market Street.

The code enforcement officer will report on sandwich board signs and council will discuss a letter to DelDOT regarding sequencing of upgrades to Route 1. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Eastern Shore Dems presentation set June 11
The Eastern Shore Democratic Club and Women’s March Sussex is proud to co-sponsor a presentation of Delaware Politics 101 Tuesday, June 11, at the Lewes Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. This interactive discussion will provide a basic knowledge to understand Delaware’s local and state government structure and functions. Those who have moved to Delaware from another state or have recently become politically activated may not be familiar with the who’s who and what’s what in Delaware state and county government.  As change agents, people need to know how the regulatory systems function and how to interact with them.

If interested in how local and Delaware state government functions and affects daily life, reserve a spot for Delaware Politics 101. The event is free but register in advance.  There will be a maximum of 60 seats to allow for interactive Q & A, so reserve a spot as soon as possible. Eastern Sussex Dems to host Coons June 15
The Eastern Sussex Democrats will host Sen. Chris Coons for brunch at the Atlantic Sands Ballroom in Rehoboth Beach Saturday, June 15. Coons serves on some of the most crucial committees impacting the current political atmosphere - Senate appropriations, foreign relations, judiciary and ethics committees all play a vital role in today’s environment. Registration for the $23 per member ($28 for non-members) brunch meeting will be from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. 

Attendees may also join or renew their membership at this meeting. The annual dues are $30 and all membership fees go directly to Sussex County Democratic candidates and their campaigns. To attend the June meeting, RSVP to Club President Kathy Hughes at Kathhughes925@gmail.com no later than Friday, June 14. Tickets will be held at the door.

Dewey audit committee meeting set June 10
The Dewey Beach Audit Committee will meet at 9:45 a.m., Monday, June 10, at the Dewey Beach Lions Club, 115 McKinley Ave., to discuss and possibly vote to recommend an independent auditor to town commissioners. Members will discuss and possibly vote on including independent auditor candidate CohnReznick for consideration despite its late proposal. Members will meet individually with vendors UHY; Barbacane, Thornton & Company; Zelenkofske Axelrod; and CohnReznick, if approved.
