Lewes city council meets July 8
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet Monday, July 8, at its new meeting time of 6:30 p.m. at city hall. The group will receive an update from the Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association on its project planned for the railroad tracks between the Lewes library and the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center and preservation of the swing bridge in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Council will consider recommendations from the code enforcement officer on sandwich board signs outside businesses, then consider changes to the annexation zone ordinance related to density calculation, open space and buffers.

City staff will make a presentation on the city’s new website and meeting management system, and council will consider an easement request from Cape Henlopen School District stormwater management in George H.P. Smith Park.

Rehoboth commissioner workshop set July 8
Rehoboth commissioners have scheduled their monthly workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, July 8, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
The agenda calls for more discussion on the canal access dock and the conversion of criminal sign violations to civil penalties. The agenda also calls for discussion of a draft ordinance related to the city’s small wireless facilities management ordinance and small wireless communications facility design manual.

Special Rehoboth meeting set July 8
Rehoboth commissioners have scheduled a special meeting immediately following the workshop. The agenda calls for a possible vote on the path forward for the canal access dock. Rehoboth Bandstand meeting set July 8
The Rehoboth Bandstand, Convention Hall, Special Events Committee has scheduled a meeting for 1 p.m., Monday, July 8, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on weekday rates and future options for the convention center. Rehoboth animal issues committee meeting set July 8
The Rehoboth Animal Issues Committee has scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, in the commissioners room of city hall. The agenda calls for a continued review of the city’s animal code. Rehoboth drawbridge to have lane closures beginning July 8
The Delaware Department of Transportation announced July 3 that beginning Monday, July 8, the drawbridge crossing the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal in Rehoboth will have temporary nighttime lane closures. The lane closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, through Wednesday, Aug. 28. There will be single nighttime lane closures on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings with flaggers on-site to direct motorists. DelDOT’s contractor will be sandblasting and painting the underside of the drawbridge. Residents can anticipate noise during this portion of the work.

Part of the bridge rehabilitation project will involve replacing the sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. While the sidewalk on one side of the bridge is being replaced, pedestrians and cyclists may utilize the other side of the sidewalk on the bridge

Milton Sustainability Committee meets July 9
Milton Sustainability Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, at Milton library, to discuss the town’s draft sustainability plan. The committee will meet again Tuesday, July 23.

14th District Democrats to meet July 10
The July meeting of the 14th Representative District Democratic Party Committee  will be held Wednesday, July 10, at the Forgotten Mile Ale House, Route 1 between Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach. The dutch treat dinner/social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  The program will feature state auditor and 14th RD Committeewoman Kathy McGuiness.

They will also tally the results of the straw polls taken at the June Democratic Presidential Candidate Debate Watch Parties which were hosted by committee members all across the 14th District. Watch party attendees are encouraged to come out to the July meeting to find out how their candidates fared, and to get a summary of the ideas discussed at the June meeting breakout sessions. Milton Water Committee to meet July 10
Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, at Milton library, to discuss progress of the town’s water infrastructure project.  The committee will discuss rates and fees, fiscal year 2020 capital improvement funds and an ordinance related to back-flow.

Milton water, land committee to meet July 10
Milton Water Infrastructure Land Acquisition Committee will meet at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, in Milton library. The committee will meet in executive session to discuss preliminary land acquisition.

Milton Finance Committee to meet July 11
Milton Finance Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 11, at Milton library, to select a committee secretary and discuss the committee’s responsibilities. 

Rehoboth looking for CDP citizen comment
Rehoboth Beach is in the beginning stages of its state-mandated comprehensive development plan, which is due in 2020. The city is asking for citizen comment by filling out a survey. There are three survey options – community, business and visitor. The survey period closes Friday, Aug. 30.

Sussex County Council off July 9
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, July 9. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, in the county administration building, Georgetown.

Believe In Tomorrow 5K set July 18
The Believe In Tomorrow Foundation 5K is set for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 18, and will be presented by the Big Chill Beach Club.
Runners and walkers will enjoy a scenic race course with beautiful views of the bay and ocean as they traverse the Indian River Inlet bridge. The post-race party will include music by DJ Steve and a free taco bar provided by the Big Chill. The event is family-friendly and will include face painting and fun activities, and parking will be free to all race participants and volunteers.
