Power outage delays Lewes planning meeting until July 23
The July 17 Lewes Planning Commission meeting was recessed until Tuesday, July 23, due to a power outage during a severe thunderstorm. The meeting will be held after a 6 p.m. special meeting. It will resume with a presentation on Dutchman’s Harvest, a workforce housing project on Savannah Road near Cape Henlopen High School. Following the presentation, commissioners will get a brief overview of the city’s new website and receive status updates on pending applications.

The planning commission had originally scheduled a public hearing for July 23, and it will be held at 6 p.m. The public hearing will be on the Fishers Cove major subdivision, which is proposed for an area between Rodney Avenue, Pilottown Road and the Great Marsh. The applicant has requested a continuance, and that matter will be considered before the hearing moves forward. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Lewes annexation meeting set July 22
The Lewes Annexation Regulation Review Committee will meet at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 22 at city hall. The group will review comments made at the June 18 mayor and city council public hearing regarding density calculations and open space in the annexation zoning districts. They will then have a discussion regarding possible amendments to Sections 197-50 and 197-74 based on public comments. Finally, the committee may make recommendations to city council. Nassau rezoning on Sussex council agenda July 23
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a 1:30 p.m. public hearing on an application filed by Nassau DE Acquisition Co. LLC to rezone a 15-acre parcel near the Route 1-Old Mill Road intersection near Lewes from AR-1, agricultural-residential, and C-2 medium commercial district to HR-1 high-density residential. The developer has plans to construct 168 apartments and a small office building on the site. See a complete agenda at www.susssexcountyde.gov.

No Henlopen Acres election for 2019
The filing deadline for the 2019 election in Henlopen Acres passed July 12 and the only two people who filed were incumbent Commissioners Frank Jamison and Richard Thompson. They will serve for three more years.

Dewey appoints Jasinski to P & Z
Dewey commissioners voted 3-0, with Commissioner Paul Bauer abstaining and Commissioner Gary Persinger absent during the vote, to appoint David Jasinski to a three-year term on the planning and zoning commission.

Rehoboth parking committee to meet July 22
The Rehoboth Beach Parking Advisory Committee has scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., Monday, July 22, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on permits, meters, enforcement, season and times. Rehoboth shade tree committee to meet July 22
The Rehoboth Beach Parks and Shade Tree Committee is scheduled to meet at 2 p.m., Monday, July 22, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for two administrative appeal hearings.
The first hearing is related to the denial of a tree- removal permit for 510 Lee St. The appeal hearing has been requested by Jan Sikueland of Royal Builders on behalf of Geno Vento, owner of the property. The second hearing pertains to planting requirements for the approved tree-removal permit at 9 Saint Lawrence St., which is owned by the estate of George and Evelyn Christopher. The appeal hearing has been requested by Joseph Abell, owner of the property located at 11 Saint Lawrence St. For more information call 302-227-6181. Rehoboth Board of Adjustment to meet July 22
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m., Monday, July 22, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a request for a variance by the property owners of 38 Virginia Ave. to exceed the floor-to-area ratio with the construction of a single-family dwelling in a residential district. The variance is being requested by William and Cathy Onufrychuk, owners of the property. Other agenda items include the consideration of by-law amendment to allow for approval of a variance with a majority of a quorum, and a discussion on the status of case law on the issue of whether a board vote can end in a tie. Tidewater to host meeting on Milton July 25
Tidewater Environmental Services will host a public information meeting from 6 to 7:45 p.m., Thursday, July 25, at the Milton Public Library about plans to build a new wastewater treatment facility on a site on Sam Lucas Road to serve the Milton area. The library is at 121 Union St. 

PLUS to review Cape Region projects July 26
Two projects in the Cape Region are included on the Friday, July 26 Preliminary Land Use Service agenda. Plaza Nine – A proposed rezoning of 11 acres at the intersection of Route 9 and Fisher Road, between Lewes and Georgetown, from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to C-3, heavy commercial, for 90,000 square feet of commercial space, 9 a.m. Herloa Property – Site-plan review for a 216-unit apartment complex on 12.5 acres along Route 24 west of the Route 1 intersection, Rehoboth Beach, 10 a.m. The public can attend PLUS meetings but public comment is not accepted. Meetings take place in Room 133, Haslet Armory, 122 Martin Luther King. Blvd., Dover.

Cape board approves committee members
The Cape Henlopen school board unanimously approved members of the citizen budget oversight committee at its June 27 meeting. Cape Director of Business Operations Oliver Gumbs recommended extending retiring terms of current members Nancy Hawpe and Margaret Brumfield. Terms of Chair Richard Seifert and current members Karen Thorpe and Chuck Mowll were approved, as were new members John Moore, Diane Potorski, David Moskowitz, Daniel DeBoissiere and Andy Lewis.
