Milton water referendum set July 21
Milton voters will go to the polls Saturday, July 21, to vote on allowing the town to borrow $895,000 for two water infrastructure projects. Polls will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Milton Town Hall. The town is seeking to build a new water main to connect the main on Federal Street to the main in Wagamon's West Shores. This project is estimated to cost $395,000. A second project, estimated at $500,000, would build a new well and water treatment facility near Shipbuilder's Village.

The town has been preapproved for a loan by the state Water Infrastructure Advisory Council at 2 percent interest over a 20-year term pending a vote by citizens at referendum. For more information go to www.milton.delaware.gov.

Beebe notifies public of valsartan recall
Beebe Healthcare officials are calling the public's attention to a voluntary recall of several drug products containing the active ingredient valsartan, used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. The Food and Drug Administration said the recall is due to the detection of a trace amount of an unexpected impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine, made by the manufacturer Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. This impurity has been classified as a probable human carcinogen, as per International Agency for Research on Cancer classification.

The FDA recommends that patients take the following action:

Because valsartan is used in medicines to treat serious medical conditions, patients taking the recalled valsartan-containing medicines should continue taking their medicine until they have a replacement product. To determine whether a specific product has been recalled, patients should look at the drug name and company name on the label of their prescription bottle. If the information is not on the bottle, patients should contact the pharmacy that dispensed the medicine.

If a patient is taking one of the recalled medicines listed below, they should follow the recall instructions provided by the specific company. This information will be posted to the FDA's website www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/DrugRecalls.
Patients should also contact their health care professional (the pharmacist who dispensed the medication or doctor who prescribed the medication) if their medicine is included in this recall to discuss their treatment.

Rehoboth Beach launches new website
Looking to find better ways to engage with its citizens, the City of Rehoboth Beach announced July 18 the launch of Envision Rehoboth Beach. Implemented on the MindMixer platform, the system allows residents to actively and easily submit ideas, comments, suggestions, questions, and observations on city-related topics.

Lewes greenways to tour town July 21
Lewes Greenways and Trails will meet at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 21, at Lewes City Hall. The meeting is an effort to educate residents about actions they can take to help the environment. Mike McFarlan, who gave a presentation in January about the monarch butterfly life cycle, will give a tour around Lewes to make firsthand observations of the monarch's various stages of development and natural history. The tour will begin at city hall. At its May meeting, the committee met at the public boat ramp at the end of Pilottown Road. Members went to the site of the old Green Hill Light to assess the existing structures and note the extent of invasive species.

Greenways member Don Long noted the brick fuel building and the poured concrete keeper home remain, but need attention. The dominant native trees are eastern red cedar and hackberry with significant coverage in the shrub and herbaceous layers of at least a dozen different invasive species.

In June, the group met at city hall to discuss efforts to implement and update the master plan. To continue local connections, Greenways will pursue a kayak launch at the public boat ramp to link to the kayak launch in Lewes Canalfront Park. Chair Nina Cannata can be contacted at ninacannata@comcast.net.
