Sussex seeks transportation ideas before Aug. 10

Sussex County officials are seeking suggestions from residents for the 2020-25 Delaware Department of Transportation Capital Transportation Program, which county council will submit to state transportation officials. Suggestions for improving local roads, pedestrian walkways, public transportation and other related infrastructure and services can be made on the county website at sussexcountyde.gov. Deadline for submissions is Friday, Aug. 10.

Milton water committee to meet Aug. 8

Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Milton library to continue discussion of long term water plans.

The committee will discuss cross connection and back flow prevention, an update on water modeling and the public works supervisor's monthly report.

Milton infrastructure group to meet Aug. 8

The Milton Water Infrastructure Land Acquisition Committee will meet at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Milton library.

The committee will hold an executive session to discuss preliminary land acquisition and visits to potential sites.

Lewes biz district parking group to meet Aug. 7

The committee looking into parking issues in downtown Lewes will meet at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 7, at city hall. The group will get an update on the inventory of metered parking spaces in the business district and review the parking meter revenue to date this summer. They will then have a discussion with DART representative Bill Thatcher regarding bus schedules and Lewes Transit Center use. The committee will then meet with Delaware River and Bay Authority representative Heath Gehrke regarding bus services provided by DRBA, then a Jolly Trolley representative about a jitney service. The meeting will conclude with a discussion with Police Chief Tom Spell about current management of parking. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Sussex council not meeting Aug. 7

Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Aug. 7. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

National Night Out in Lewes set for Aug. 7

The annual National Night Out celebration in Lewes will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., at George H.P. Smith Park. Locally sponsored by the Lewes Police Department, the event is an opportunity for police departments to interact with the community through education and community programs. Free food, prizes and police demonstrations.

Josephs Road to close Aug. 6 for railroad crossing removal

The Delaware Department of Transportation alerts motorists that Delaware Coast Line Railroad will be removing the railroad crossing on Josephs Road between Log Cabin Hill Road and Lewes-Georgetown Highway in Harbeson. Josephs Road will be closed from 5 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6, to 11:59 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10, pending weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Detour routes: Southbound, Josephs Road onto Log Cabin Hill Road to Sweetbriar Road to Lewes-Georgetown Highway and return to Josephs Road. Northbound, Josephs Road to Lewes-Georgetown Highway onto Sweetbriar Road to Log Cabin Hill Road and back to Josephs Road. Detour signage will be posted for motorists.

Rehoboth commissioner workshop Aug. 6

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners has scheduled a workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, April 6, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

The agenda calls for further discussion on the city sign ordinance, a discussion on the aesthetics of empty storefronts, a discussion on additional antenna sites proposed by AT& T and the results of the city's tree survey.

Special Rehoboth meeting Aug. 6

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners has scheduled a special meeting for Monday, April 6, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The meeting is slated to begin immediately following the conclusion of the commissioner workshop.

The agenda for the special meeting calls for the first quarter evaluation of City Manager Sharon Lynn.

Milton council to meet Aug. 6

Milton Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, at Milton library to continue discussion of the town budget.

Council will also hear a presentation and discussion on annexation fees, discuss an ordinance related to supplemental assessments, discuss revisions to the draft comprehensive development plan and ratify the results of the July 21 water system improvements referendum.

Council will approve a request from Sussex County Council to waive the building permit fee on the Milton library bulkhead replacement project, a request from Milton Little League to waive the building permit fee for new lighting, and award contracts for paving projects at Orchard Street and Front Street.

Beach parking group to meet Aug. 6 in Lewes

The committee charged with looking into the beach parking situation at Lewes Beach will meet at 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, at city hall. The topics of this meeting will be a discussion on replacing all stop signs on roads connecting Cedar Street to Bay Avenue with yield signs and a discussion about the vision of Lewes Beach in the future. Finance Committee to meet in Lewes Aug. 6

The Lewes Finance Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 6, at city hall. The group will discuss investments, financial statements, capital projects, grants and major capital expenditures for fiscal year 2020. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Sussex council awards grants to nonprofits

During its July 24 meeting, Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants: $500 to Christian Storehouse in Millsboro for its emergency food pantry; $1,000 to CHEER for its 8th annual Car, Truck and Bike Show to benefit the Cooking for Seniors capital campaign to construct a new $1.4 million kitchen; $2,000 to Milford Museum to help fund the executive director's position; and $3,000 to Delaware Botanic Gardens for its Opening the Garden Gates garden party sponsorship.

Sussex EMS awarded Heart Association honor

Sussex County EMS received the American Heart Association 2018 Mission Lifeline Gold Plus Award based on response time for heart-attack patients. Sussex County paramedics exceeded the goals for EKG placement on patients within 10 minutes 94 percent of the time, and time of response to admission and treatment at the hospital within 90 minutes 90 percent of the time.
