Rehoboth commissioner workshop set Sept. 9
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have set their monthly workshop at 9 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on a wireless technology ordinance, a review of a draft ordinance on administrative variances and a discussion on a new service agreement for city water towers. Special Rehoboth meeting set Sept. 9
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 11:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 9, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for possible votes on the wireless technology ordinance, the awarding of Delaware Avenue stormwater pipe replacement and the new servicing agreement on city water towers. Lewes council meets Sept. 9
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, at city hall. The group will consider approval of the Richard Shields Elementary School site plan and updates to the portable sign ordinance. Council will appoint members to the new police department review ad hoc committee, consider restricting parking on the west side of Rhode Island and New Jersey avenues, and consider a request from Lewes in Bloom for a mosaic on the side of the Savannah Road bridge. Council will set public hearings for the Dutchman’s Harvest workforce housing project on Savannah Road and for off-street parking requirements in the cultural and historical zone. Milton preservation commission to meet Sept. 10
Milton Historic Preservation Committee will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Milton library, to hear three requests for alterations to properties in the historic district. First is a request from Walter Gurczenski, 325 Union St., to build a 24-by-32-foot accessory structure on the rear of the property. 
The commission will then hear a request from James Welu, 109 Broad St., to add new siding, a rear double door, replace the front door and install new windows on the side and rear of the house. Finally, David Mills, 111 Broad St., is asking for a change of roof materials, installing new gutters and downspouts, enclosing the front porch and veneering the foundation.

Milton Water Committee to meet Sept. 11
Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Milton library, to discuss the progress of ongoing projects, and discuss rates and fees. Among the projects to be discussed are the well and treatment facility at Shipbuilder’s Village, water main upgrades at Atlantic Avenue and Chestnut Street, planning for a new main on Sam Lucas Road, water main upgrades on Atlantic Avenue and Cave Neck Road, and upgrades to the Chandler Street treatment facility.

14th District Dems meet Sept. 11
The September meeting of the 14th Representative District Democratic Party Committee  will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Forgotten Mile Ale House, Route 1 between Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach.  The dutch treat dinner/social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.  The program will feature State Election Commissioner Anthony Albence. He will be speaking about the new Delaware voting machines and election security. They also expect to receive an update and comments from Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth. Rehoboth parking passes still needed
As a result of changes made by commissioners this past winter, the parking permit season has been extended to the second Sunday following Labor Day, which is Sunday, Sept. 15, this year. The new season coincides with the parking meter season.
Parking permits are required daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in all non-metered areas within the city. All parking permits allow for parking at Deauville Beach.
After Aug. 1, parking permit costs for seasonal transferable went to $125 and non-transferable went to $115. Other permits include a weekly for $90, a 3-day weekend for $45, weekend daily for $20 and weekday daily for $15. Parking permits are available at the parking department, 1 City Hall Drive; visitors center, 501 Rehoboth Ave.; Rehoboth Avenue coming into town after crossing the drawbridge; and Bayard Avenue coming into town after crossing over Silver Lake.

Lewes historic preservation to meet Sept. 10
The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, at city hall. The group will consider a request for removal of the roof on the rear of the home at 331 Mulberry St. The owner seeks to add a new dormer. Honey’s Farm Fresh, 329 Savannah Road, will go before the commission seeking permission to remove the existing vinyl siding and replace it with western red cedar siding.

Workforce housing on BPW agenda Sept. 10
The Lewes Board of Public Works will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the BPW council room, 107 Franklin Ave. The topic of the meeting is the request from developer Preston Schell for relief in impact fees for the Dutchman’s Harvest workforce housing project. He is seeking to build a 140-unit project on a parcel of land along Savannah Road near the trail crossing. For more information, call the BPW office at 302-684-6228.
Sussex council, commission to meet.

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is an update by Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson on the buffers and wetlands working group. In addition, council will attend a noon luncheon at the Sussex County Association of Realtors office, 23407 Park Ave., Georgetown, with planning and zoning commission and board of adjustment members. At 2 p.m., council will host a fair housing training seminar at the same location that may be attended by commission and board members. See a complete agenda at www.sussexcountyde.gov. Lewes drawbridge lane closures upcoming
Work on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal drawbridge in downtown Lewes between Second Street and Anglers Road will require temporary nighttime lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Sept. 9 through Sept. 30. A Delaware Department of Transportation contractor will be cleaning and painting the bridge, replacing the sidewalks, repairing the roadway and replacing the bridge warning signals. While the sidewalk on one side of the bridge is being replaced, pedestrians and cyclists can use the sidewalk on other side of the bridge. Later this fall and winter, the project will require additional lane and sidewalk closures, and closure of the roadway at night. DelDOT officials will advise motorists in advance regarding the times and dates.

Sussex Democrat Jamboree set Sept. 14
The Sussex County Democrats will be having their  Annual Jamboree Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m.  The event will be held at Cape Henlopen State Park, 42 Cape Henlopen Drive, Lewes.   Come out and have a great time, while helping to raise money for the organization.
There will be great food, a great DJ spinning some great music, great conversation and great people. Federal, state and local politicians will be on hand to meet, greet and share information about the party and the 2020 election. Tickets are $30 for adults; ages 12 and under is $15.  Tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $40.

Trail sections closed for maintenance work
Sections of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail from Donovans Road to Log Cabin Hill Road will be closed for a Delaware Department of Transportation contractor to cut down and trim trees, mow and spray. The work began Sept. 3 and is anticipated to be complete by late September, pending weather. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. There will be temporary barriers in place; DelDOT officials remind trail users not to move the barriers or go around them.
The barriers will be removed by the contractor at 7 p.m. each day.
