Beebe hosts COVID-19 info session for Cape

Beebe Healthcare will offer a virtual COVID-19 information session for Cape Henlopen School District parents at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18. The presentation will feature a panel of healthcare experts, including Beebe President and CEO David Tam, infectious disease physician Bill Chasanov, Cape Wellness Center family nurse practitioner Joann Economos and pediatrician Erin Fletcher, who will discuss the current COVID-19 climate and safety measures parents can enact with their children as they start the new school year. Walk of Change set Sept. 20 in Delmar

A Walk of Change Silent March and Peaceful Demonstration will begin at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20, at State Street Park in Delmar. The event supports efforts to combat racial and social justice problems. The one-mile walk will start and end at the park. Black Lives Matter signs and apparel are encouraged. Rehoboth meter, parking pass season end

Beginning Monday, Sept. 21, parking meters will no longer be in effect and parking passes will no longer be needed in Rehoboth Beach.

Lewes tennis courts to be discussed Sept. 21

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 21. Among the items on the agenda is a discussion regarding the reconstruction of the tennis/pickleball courts at Canalfront Park. There will also be a discussion about pickleball needs in the Lewes area. Other agenda items include a discussion regarding the parks and rec commission’s budget and the impact of COVID-19 on it, and discussion about next year’s budget. Commissioners will also talk about the Great Marsh Park master plan and possible action on a new chair of the commission. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.

Lewes Public Art group meets Sept. 22

The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22. The group will discuss education efforts, long-range plans and public comments. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.

Construction notice issued for Lake Avenue

Rehoboth Beach has issued a construction notice for the Lake Avenue Streetscape Improvements Project Phase II. According to a press release Sept. 11, work was scheduled to begin Sept. 14. Rehoboth commissioners awarded the $1.22 million contract to Newark-based Grassbusters in August. The federal government has put roughly $850,000 toward the project. The city has budgeted $400,000. The general contractor for this project is Grassbusters Landscaping Co., Inc. The anticipated completion of the project is spring 2021. Traffic in the project area will be affected by construction efforts. Parking will not be permitted around work sites during the workday. There may be a need for temporary road closures throughout the area as equipment or materials move in and out of the site. Access to properties’ driveways may also be impacted for short periods of time while work occurs in front of those particular properties. Motorists should follow all posted signage. The contractor will be mobilizing equipment on Second Street in a restricted area. Work will begin on Second Street near Rehoboth Avenue and proceed toward Olive Avenue. Working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is weather dependent. Special Rehoboth meeting set Sept. 22

Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22. The meeting will be conducted online. The agenda calls for a discussion on strategies and the path forward in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. Members of the public wishing to speak will be required to preregister with City Secretary Ann Womack at least two days prior to the meeting. She can be contacted at awomack@cityofrehoboth.com. TID, MOU on Sussex council Sept. 22 agenda

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are updates and discussions on the proposed memorandum of understanding between county officials and DelDOT on certain land-use applications and the proposed Henlopen Transportation Improvement District. A public hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m. on updates to three ordinances relating to lot maintenance and enforcement.
