Milton tree lighting to be held Nov. 30
Milton will ring in the holiday season with the annual tree lighting, 5:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Milton Memorial Park.
The event will kick off with music from the Water’s Edge church praise team, followed by Morgan Schwab singing at 6:15 p.m. The tree lighting will happen at 6:30 p.m. Besides music, the event, hosted by Milton Mayor Ted Kanakos, will have hot chocolate from the Milton Lions Club and fresh cookies from the Milton Community Foundation.

Rylie’s Smile Dinner slated Nov. 30
Rylie’s Smile Foundation is hosting its 2018 Community Dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at both Nicola Pizza locations, 8 N. First St. and 71 Rehoboth Ave. There will a grand raffle, a 50/50 raffle, a silent and Chinese auctions. There will be individually wrapped cupcakes for sale and Rylie’s Smile merchandise. Proceeds – 15 percent of all dinner sales – will benefit the foundation, which gifts children battling for their lives an Apple iPod Touch. For more information go to www.ryliessmilefoundation.org.

Rehoboth law oversight committee to meet Dec. 4
The Rehoboth Beach Law Oversight Committee has scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on the city’s tree ordinance and zoning code.

Rehoboth Hometown Christmas Parade set Dec. 4
The 2018 Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade will be presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4. Following the parade, all parade participants and attendees are invited to Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for Santa’s Christmas Party. There will be refreshments and the awarding of trophies. Sussex council awards grants to nonprofits
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its Nov. 27 meeting: $1,000 to Good Samaritan Aid Organization for its annual Christmas outreach project and $500 to Western Sussex Chamber of Commerce for its annual Christmas parade.

Density ordinance back on Sussex agenda Dec. 4
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are possible votes on a proposed density ordinance and the final draft of the 2018 comprehensive land-use plan. Council is also scheduled to vote on an application filed by Kirk Salvo, KH Sussex LLC for a commercial rezoning of a 3.5-acre parcel at the intersection of Route 24 and Angola Road. More than $3.2 million collected in tolls during Thanksgiving holiday
The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday travel period, more than 1.2 million vehicle trips were counted at the I-95 Newark toll plaza, Route 1 Biddles Corner toll plaza and Route 1 Dover toll plaza. More than $3.2 million was collected during the time period.

Dewey Beach collecting for Adopt-A-Family
The Town of Dewey Beach is once again participating in Adopt-A-Family this holiday season, and is collecting gifts for children in the Cape Henlopen School District. Anyone is welcome to review children’s anonymous wish lists and purchase items. Wrapped gifts must be brought to Town Hall, 105 Rodney Ave., by Friday, Dec. 7.

Eastern Sussex Dems set holiday party Dec. 5
The  Eastern Sussex Democratic Club and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall Long are hosting the ESDC’s 2018 annual Holiday Party at Kings Creek Country Club, 1 Kings Circle, Rehoboth Beach Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 5 to  9 p.m.  For the cost of $35 per person, revelers will be able to enjoy a sumptuous and varied buffet of Chef Phil’s renowned cuisine and the festive holiday decor that makes Kings Creek Country Club particularly warm and welcoming during the holiday season.

Sussex offices to close three hours Dec. 7
Sussex County offices will close from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, for employees to attend the annual Mildred King Luncheon, a time set aside to recognize county employees for their service. The event is named in honor of former employee Mildred King, who served Sussex County for nearly 30 years.

Sussex council awards nonprofit grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its Nov. 13 meeting: $1,860 to Grace-N-Mercy Ministries for its community Thanksgiving dinner; $600 to Town of Blades for the children’s Christmas party; and $500 to Seaford Elite Travel Football Club for competition expenses.

Dewey authorizes donation to RBVFC
Dewey Beach commissioners voted unanimously during the Nov. 10 meeting to approve a donation of $5,000 to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company in appreciation of its dedicated and continued service to the community.

DART’s approved service changes set
During several community conversations and public hearings, DART listened to its riders and the public; as a result, changes were made to its original proposal. Visit DartFirstState.com for accessible schedules for easy reference. Sussex County routes may have minor schedule adjustments to improve on-time performance and connections. 

Routes 201 and 204 start one hour earlier at 6 a.m. for better connections with Routes 206 and 307. Routes 212 and 215 schedules will be adjusted to improve on-time performance and time between stops. DART will operate a reduced service schedule on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; consult the website and schedules, when they are available, for specific details.
