Milton historic commission to meet Dec. 11
Milton Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Milton library, to hear two requests. The first request is from Dutch Brothers LLC for three improvements to a property at 112 Federal St. The company would like to add an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant concrete ramp on the south side of the building, remove and replace a door, and replace the flashing and re-stucco the existing chimney. The second request is from Michael and Mary Jane Ostinato, 208 Chestnut St., to replace asbestos-cement siding with hardieplank siding.
Milton Water Committee to meet Dec. 12
The Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Milton library to review the town’s long-term water plans. The committee will discuss funding, progress of projects, fire hydrant testing and water meter placement.
Lewes BPW to meet Dec. 12
The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at city hall. The group will discuss a policy for 5G pole attachments to BPW poles and right of ways, forgiving impact fees for Savannah Place residents and a request from the American Legion to hang banners on the BPW’s poles honoring veterans. The board will also discuss a community outreach program regarding the upcoming second phase of work at Front Street and Savannah Road. For more information, call the BPW at 302-645-6228.
Milton board to meet Dec. 12
Milton Board of Adjustment will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Milton library to discuss and possibly vote on a resolution allowing a home on Union Street to be lower than the town’s flood elevation requirements. Brian Nickerson, 131 Union St., is restoring a historic home and plans to raise the house to Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements. However, the town’s standards are higher than FEMA’s, so Nickerson needed a variance because he could not put the steps to the front porch back in at town standards without encroaching onto the sidewalk. Nickerson can’t move the house back because it would lose its historic status.
Cape school board to meet Dec. 13
The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursdy, Dec. 13, at Cape High. The board will possibly take action on the naming of the Sussex Consortium and review several board policies. The Cape High Leo Club will present a student ambassador report. Major capital project updates and change orders will be discussed.
Rehoboth tree advisory committee meeting set Dec. 14
The Rehoboth Beach Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for creating a draft presentation for 2019 priorities and a discussion on Arbor Day in 2019.

Rehoboth planners, board to meet Dec. 14
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a special joint meeting with the board of commissioners for 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 14, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on the working draft of the 2020 Comprehensive Development Plan, with a project kickoff presentation by KCI Technologies Inc. Delaware marker for Rabbit’s Ferry School unveiling set Dec. 14
The Delaware Historical Markers Program along with Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, Israel United Methodist Church and the Rabbit’s Ferry Community Center will unveil a new historical marker for Rabbit’s Ferry School, commemorating the historic school that educated Native American and African-American students in the Robinsonville area from 1920-65. Rabbit’s Ferry was one of Delaware’s last active one-room schools when it closed in 1965. The building now serves as the Rabbit’s Ferry Community Center. This event, set for 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, is free and open to the public. The school is located at 19112 Robinsonville Road.
Milton planning and zoning to meet Dec. 18
Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Milton library to discuss a proposed amendment to the zoning code regarding temporary structures. The commission could possibly create an advisory report on the proposed amendment, which would regulate when and how long temporary structures can be erected.
