Brian Nickerson, 131 Union St., is restoring a historic home and plans to raise the house to Federal Emergency Management Agency requirements. However, the town’s standards are higher than FEMA’s, so Nickerson needed a variance because he could not put the steps to the front porch back in at town standards without encroaching onto the sidewalk.
