Traffic study filed on proposed project
Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission has received the traffic-impact study for a proposed subdivision near Long Neck. Keastone Bay – Baywood LLC and Sussex Realty Co. has plans for a 675-single-family-lot cluster subdivision on a 311-acre parcel on both sides of Green Road near Banks Road. Now that the study has been entered into the public record, the public has until 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 27, to provide written comments. The study is available in the 2018-34 file at the county planning and zoning office in the administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Lewes planners to meet Dec. 18
The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the Rollins Community Center. The group will receive status updates on Lewes Waterfront Preserve and Fishers Cove. They will also discuss ordinances related to wetlands buffer and fill in the 100-year flood plain. There will also be discussion about the commission’s recent water workshop. Delaware Native Species Commission to meet Dec. 18
Delaware’s Native Species Commission will meet at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, in Room 220 at the Kent County Administrative Building, 555 Bay Road, Dover. The council will discuss progress on its 2019 priorities, potential legislation banning the sale of certain invasive plants, its annual report to the General Assembly, and other issues.

Satanists plan candlelight vigil on Circle in Georgetown Dec. 21
First State Satanists have planned a candlelight vigil to celebrate the winter solstice from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, on The Circle in downtown Georgetown. The Delaware-based group will be on The Circle at the same time as the nightly living nativity hosted by the Good Ole Boy Foundation and local churches.

The First State Satanists reject supernaturalism and advocate for positive change in the areas of religious plurality, bodily autonomy and equal rights for all people, according to a press release issued by the group. “Members strive to educate themselves and others about modern Satanism, politics and science, and promote charitable works within their communities,” the release noted. “This event will serve as an opportunity for the group and community to come together with love and light on the longest night of the year, in celebration of the longer days to come, the closing of the current year, the beginning of a new decade.

“The First State Satanists invite fellow faithless friends and all those who support our country’s religious freedoms to join them in celebrating pluralism, religious diversity and equal rights during this holiday season.”

Sussex P&Z recommends rezoning
Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended approval of a rezoning application from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to C-2 medium commercial filed by Preston Dyer for a 2-acre parcel at 28855 Lewes-Georgetown Highway west of Lewes. Local homebuilder Capstone Homes has proposed to build a new office at the site. Sussex County Council has scheduled a public hearing on the application at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

Special Rehoboth commissioners meeting set Dec. 20
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, in the commissioners room of city hall. The agenda calls for an executive session to receive legal advice and opinion from City Solicitor Glenn Mandalas regarding potential litigation relating to the calculation of gross floor area. Rehoboth Beach commissioners to meet Dec. 20
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a meeting for 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, in the commissioners room of city hall.
The agenda calls for a permit of compliance hearing for The Sandcrab Beach Bar on the Boardwalk to modify its floor plans, and possible votes on administrative variances, adoption of the 2018 International Building Codes and a change to the requirements for being a planning commission member.
