Lewes byway committee set to meet Dec. 19
The Historic Lewes Scenic Byway Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at city hall. The group will discuss preservation of the Lewes railroad tracks, implementation of the Gills Neck Road/Kings Highway master plan, landscaping for the Old Orchard Road realignment, the New Road master plan, Sussex County’s density calculation ordinance and the Brittingham annexation. Silver maple appeal hearing set for Dec. 20
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners has scheduled an administrative appeal hearing related to the parks and shade tree commission’s decision to allow the cutting down of a silver maple tree at 318 Country Club Dr. The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

Property owners John McKenna, Winifred McKenna and Mary Ann Sartain were given permission by the city’s parks and shade tree commission during a hearing Oct. 22. Property owners Julie Davis and John Metz filed the appeal and stop work order with the city Oct. 24. For more information call 302-227-6181. Smith estate on Lewes planners agenda Dec. 19
The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, at city hall. The panel will consider a request to subdivide into three lots a 23.1-acre property along Gills Neck Road on which the Otis and Hazell Smith mansion sits. The request is being made by Gills Neck Realty Company. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Rehoboth commissioner meeting Dec. 21
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, in the commissioners’ room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The meeting agenda includes the swearing-in of Steve Scheffer as commissioner replacing former Commissioner Kathy McGuiness, a permit of compliance hearing for Agave’s Rehoboth Avenue location, and discussions and possible votes related to the city’s parking structure and rates for the convention center.
