Dewey Town Council to meet Sept. 14

Dewey Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at Dewey Beach Lions Club, 115 McKinley Ave. Commissioners will provide an update and discuss the military surplus equipment program, and discuss and possibly vote to approve a whistleblower policy, a resolution to approve a town solicitor and an ordinance to approve, adopt and enact the Dewey Beach Comprehensive Development Plan. Commissioners will also discuss the property on the corner of Swedes Street and Route 1, formerly Ed’s Chicken.

Several area projects on P&Z agenda

Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are possible votes on several applications in the Cape Region:

Overbrook Meadows, a 135-single-family-lot subdivision on 64 acres of AR-1 land along Route 1 north of Lewes at the Cave Neck Road intersection.

Stream’s Edge, a 42-single-family-lot subdivision on 20 acres of AR-1 land off Robinsonville Road near the Kendale Road intersection near Lewes.

Oak Landing, a 163-single-family-lot subdivision on 60 acres along Oak Orchard Road near Oak Orchard.

Kirk Salvo, KH Sussex LLC, rezoning from AR-1 to C-3 for a 3.5-acre parcel at the intersection of Route 24 and Angola Road.

A public hearing is scheduled for an application filed by Anchors Run – Insight Development Co. LLC for a 265-single-family-lot subdivision on a 133-acre parcel along Beaver Dam Road south of Hopkins Road across from Stockley Road near Lewes.

The commission is also having a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the calculation of permitted density.

Lewes Board of Adjustment to meet

The Lewes Board of Adjustment will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, in city hall. Randy Burton of Burton Builders is requesting on behalf of the owners of lots 5, 7 and part of 9 on Kentucky Avenue to consolidate the lots and re-subdivide them into two lots. They are also seeking a variance to the required minimum lot width of 50 feet for a 49.75-foot-wide lot for one of the properties and another variance for the required minimum lot area of 5,000 square feet for a 4,975-square-foot lot for the other property. Lewes Annexation Committee to meet

The Lewes Annexation Committee will meet at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at city hall. The group will discuss the annexation request for the 34.64-acre Brittingham farm on New Road near Canary Creek. The committee will open with a discussion about the possible annexation of a small parcel on Savannah Road near the former railroad crossing, adjacent to the Beebe Healthcare property that is under contract with Ocean Atlantic Companies to build a senior living facility and affordable housing. 

Lewes business parking committee to meet

The Lewes Business District Parking Committee will meet at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, at city hall. The group will discuss parking concerns of business owners and their employees before continuing a conversation about parking meters in the downtown district. Lewes consolidation committee to meet

The Lewes committee charged with consolidating the historic preservation commission and the commercial architectural review commission will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at city hall. The group will continue its work to create a new committee to deal with requests for both commissions. The committee may vote on a proposed ordinance. DART seeks input on bus route changes

The Delaware Transit Corporation is holding a series of public hearing workshops to give citizens an opportunity to comment on proposed changes to statewide fixed-route bus service. The proposals are currently set to be implemented Sunday, Dec. 9.

One of the workshops is being held in Sussex County Thursday, Sept. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Georgetown Public Library, 123 West Pine St. 

The first 30 minutes of the event will be structured as an open house, allowing attendees to view proposal boards, interact with staff, receive clarifications, fill out comment forms, and complete a fare payment survey.

The remainder of the workshop will include a presentation of the proposed service changes, followed by public testimony for those wishing to provide comments. Attendees may also give their input privately to the hearing reporter during the open house or following public testimony. A summary of the proposed changes can be viewed at dartfirststate.com. Rehoboth tree advisory committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a continued discussion on education opportunities. Rehoboth planning commission to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting for 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

The agenda calls for a discussion on the status of the site-plan review for a proposed 40-room hotel at 17, 19 and 21 Baltimore Ave. At the request of property owner Gene Lankford, the concept review of the site plan was held on July 13. The agenda also calls for a continued discussion related to developing the 2020 comprehensive development plan. For more information call 302-227-6181. Cape school board meeting Sept. 13

The Cape Henlopen school board will hold a workshop meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at Love Creek Elementary School. The board will hear a presentation on vacation and holiday policies, smarter balanced and SAT test results.

Bids requested for Rehoboth street paving

Rehoboth has issued a request for bids for the street paving project of fiscal year 2019. Sealed bids will be received by the city until 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4.

The work involves furnishing all labor, materials, transportation, tools, supplies and equipment necessary to make roadway repairs, including milling, patching, paving and incidental associated work. Interested bidders must attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the caucus room of city hall. Interested bidders may obtain an electronic copy of the contract by contacting Public Works Director Kevin Williams at 302-227-6181 or kwilliams@cityofrehoboth.com. A copy of the bid documents will be emailed to interested parties.
