I am a candidate for Lewes BPW because I believe that BPW needs to improve its relationship with the public as well as with the Mayor and City Council.
As Delaware natives, my wife and I followed college, family and careers elsewhere for five decades, and then returned to our home state, choosing Lewes
because friends here were patiently persistent in their hospitality. In early 2019, after years of summer visits, we began a new chapter in our lives here.
Then, an open "mayor's workshop" to discuss the dunes at Lewes Beach One hooked us, as we learned more in those two hours than we could have in years. Subsequently, attending meetings of the Mayor and City Council and of the planning commission became our university. The council meetings showed us a diverse and dedicated group. Each member was genuinely committed to do what they thought best for Lewes in a time of accelerating growth and change.
In contrast, during our time here in Lewes, we noticed the difference in how BPW conducted operations and interactions with the public. There were fewer
open meetings, discussions and sharing of relevant information with the public. The business model seemed to operate more on a "need to know" basis.
Public distrust of and anger toward BPW have increased, which is unfortunate. I believe that BPW is missing an opportunity to change course that would result in healthy public support and understanding. I want to be part of a positive change for BPW and for the public. I bring a different set of career and life
experiences that are not incompatible with BPW's operations. The most important goal is to be helpful in working for a better partnership with the Mayor
and City Council.
I urge that those registered to vote do so May 8, and I hope they would consider and vote for me.
