Nina Maddox promoted to executive chef at Crust & Craft at Midway

April 20, 2019

Nina Maddox is the new executive chef at Crust & Craft, the Midway restaurant in Rehoboth Beach that specializes in wood-fired pizza, pasta and craft beer. SoDel Concepts purchased Crust & Craft in February 2019. Maddox, who moved from Wilmington to Sussex County as a teenager, oversees all the kitchen operations at the restaurant.

“Nina is well-versed in Italian cuisine,” said Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, which has 11 restaurants in coastal Sussex County. “She’s also a talented leader who can work well with the existing staff at Crust & Craft.”

Maddox, who graduated from Woodbridge High School, developed her skills in an Italian restaurant in Greenwood before joining Lupo Italian Kitchen, a SoDel Concepts restaurant in downtown Rehoboth Beach, in 2017.

“It didn’t take us long to realize that Nina is a creative and dedicated chef,” said Chris Parks, formerly the executive chef at Lupo Italian Kitchen and now a corporate chef for SoDel Concepts. “When our company purchased Crust & Craft, we needed a chef who knew both SoDel Concepts’ culture and Italian cuisine. Nina was the perfect choice. She is more than ready for the challenge.”

In addition to her on-the-job skills, Maddox has mined husband Jimmy’s family for inspiration. “They are all amazing cooks,” she said. “Over the past 20 years, I’ve incorporated some of his family members’ styles into my own. It’s helped make me the chef I am today.”

The couple, who live in Greenwood, have three daughters: Tiarra, Mya and Marlee.
