Norfolk pair faces weapons, drug charges

A Norfolk, Va. duo face charges after police say several weapons and drugs were found in their vehicle May 8 during a Georgetown traffic stop.

Shantai Lancaster, 26, was driving an Acura MDX at 11:39 a.m. in the area of DuPont Boulevard and South Bedford Street with passenger Kyanna Stevens, 21, when police pulled them over for illegal tinting on all the windows including the windshield, said Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police. Upon contacting the driver, Hatchell said, Lancaster did not have a valid driver’s license. Police also detected an odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle, and found four guns during a probable cause search. Police found a Glock 48 9mm, a Glock Bodyguard .380-caliber, a Century Arms Inc. .380-caliber, and a Century Arms Inc. Georgia Draco Nark 9mm. Police also found about 20 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, about 82 grams of marijuana, and more than $1,500 in suspected drug proceeds.

Lancaster and Stevens were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 4 where they were each charged with felony possession of a controlled substance Tier 3 quantity, felony possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, felony second-degree conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lancaster was also charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm within 10 years of a prior conviction, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and given driving citations.

Lancaster and Stevens were arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 3; Lancaster was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $67,040 cash bond, and Stevens was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $23,200 cash bond.
