January 27, 2019

A morning fire at Prime Hook Jan. 27 home took the life of a resident, and two others were injured after they jumped from the second floor of the home.

The blaze was reported about 10 a.m. in the 26000 block of Prime Hook Road. When firefighters with the Milton Fire Co. arrived at the scene, flames were shooting out of the two-story home, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Firefighters found one person dead inside the burning home. Two others - a 10-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman - jumped from a second-floor bedroom and were taken to Milford Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released for smoke inhalation and contusions, Chionchio said.

The victim was taken to the Division of Forensic Science, which will conduct an autopsy Jan. 28, Chionchio said.

Chionchio said the home was heavily damaged by fire; he estimated the fire caused $50,000 in damages. Officials continue to investigate and more information will be provided when available.
