Optimist Club to hold open meeting Dec. 6

November 28, 2021

The Optimist Club of Sussex County is seeking volunteers who maintain an upbeat attitude and like to help empower young people to be the best they can be.

The Sussex County club is part of Optimist International, a worldwide volunteer organization with more than 2,500 local clubs whose members work each day to make the future brighter by bringing out the best in children, in their communities and in themselves.

Carrying the motto Bringing Out the Best in Kids, Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than 6 million young people each year.

Anyone interested in volunteering is invited to attend the club’s next meeting, set for 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at Grotto Pizza, 30201 Commerce Drive, Millsboro. For more information, contact Sussexoptimist@gmail.com.

As the local Optimist Club starts its fifth year, members look forward to offering several opportunities for all Sussex County high school students. Students will be able to participate in events that promote an active interest in civic affairs and community service, and give students a voice in the world around them. Current opportunities include the Fall 2021 Essay Contest, the Oratorical Scholarship Contest in March 2022 and the Youth Appreciation Day coming in spring 2022. All information for upcoming events has been sent to administrators and guidance departments at Sussex County high schools.

Any students who have questions, did not receive the information, or are home-schooled can email Sussexoptimist@gmail.com.
