Optimist Club honors Seaford police chief

April 15, 2021

In a virtual ceremony held March 15, the Optimist Club of Sussex County presented its Respect for Law Award to Seaford Chief of Police Marshall D. Craft Jr.

Craft became the Seaford police chief in May 2019 after having served with the Delaware State Police for more than 30 years.

Under his leadership, the Seaford Police Department has continued its past initiatives and efforts to engage with area youth and make a difference in the local community. Programs have included partnering with the Boys & Girls Club and Children and Families First, assuming the duties of the Seaford School District’s school resource officer program, and raising funds through special events to assist with various community programs and families in need. Community outreach programs include Live for Chocolate, River Fest, AFRAM and Seaford Community Night Out. Presentations on topics related to social injustice and policing in the community have promoted discussions within the local community.

Craft said he is proud to accept this Respect for Law Award on behalf of the Seaford Police Department. “I want to be clear that any accomplishments our department has achieved have been through the collective efforts of so many people: our officers and staff, the mayor, council and city manager, our many supporters and partners within the community,” he said.
