I am writing in support of the candidacy of Tom Panetta, who is seeking re-election to the Lewes Board of Public Works. Elected to his first term three years ago, Tom has since made several significant contributions to the board and the operation of the BPW.
His background could not be better for this position. He worked professionally in the power industry for over 20 years with a degree in nuclear engineering. He has been a resident of Lewes for over 10 years. Together with his partner he restored a wonderful Victorian home to its former grandeur, and in doing so did much of the design and construction work himself. He has also demonstrated his commitment to Lewes by serving on several City of Lewes committees, including the planning commission and a subcommittee to study sea level rise, of which he is chair.
In this election I think it is important to realize that a board position on BPW is a volunteer elected position. There is no compensation for BPW board members. When we find candidates who are both willing to dedicate their time to serve, and offer the talent and experience needed for BPW to be a success, it becomes doubly important to have them continue to serve on the board. I strongly support Tom Panetta for re-election and hope you will too.
