Partnership supports state’s ability to help residents in need

Delaware 2-1-1 helpline to improve response time, followup
December 8, 2019

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services and Delaware 2-1-1 recently announced an expanded partnership to ensure more Delawareans have access to critical human service resources throughout the state.

Delaware 2-1-1, aka the Delaware Helpline, is an information and referral service that connects Delawareans in need with a wide range of resources. The partnership aims to improve response times and provide greater follow-up to ensure those who call Delaware 2-1-1 receive the help they need.

Delaware 2-1-1 certified information and referral specialists will now offer one-on-one assistance to residents whose situations require in-depth management. They will meet with residents in state service centers or other public facilities, such as libraries, to better serve the community.

“Delaware 2-1-1 and DHSS have joined forces to improve our statewide capacity to respond to calls for immediate assistance, and with the support of the outreach specialists, we can now send specialists to meet directly with Delawareans where they are,” said Michelle A. Taylor, United Way of Delaware president and CEO. “The new agreement with DHSS also makes it easier for Delaware 2-1-1 and DHSS to collaborate more effectively in the interest of Delawareans.”

“This partnership with United Way of Delaware means we will serve more Delawareans more effectively,” said Ray Fitzgerald, DHSS Division of Social Services director. “And with more boots on the ground through our outreach specialists, we’re in a better position to meet with those residents who may need more one-on-one assistance than we can provide on the phone.”
