Pastel class set at the Rehoboth Art League Oct. 4-25

September 26, 2018

Come explore the color, texture and depth of pastels as a painting medium and techniques of layering pigments over pigments with local artist John Conroy at the Rehoboth Art League’s Painting in Pastel class Thursday mornings, Oct. 4-25 from 10 a.m. to noon. This beginner class will focus on developing large shapes and the importance of value relationships. In addition, students will be introduced to the various pastels available today as well as the various painting surfaces used by nationally known pastel artists. It is recommended that students be familiar with good drawing principles. The cost of the class is $100 for members and $135 for nonmembers.

Instructor Conroy’s award-winning paintings have been featured in many regional exhibits from The Academy of Fine Arts Exhibit in Mystic, Conn., to The Pastel Society of America and Salmagundi Club in New York City. In addition to private collections, his artwork is part of the collections of the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md., and Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, N.Y.  He studied art at the Art Students League and The School of Visual Arts in New York City, and has been a student of nationally known painters, including Robert Brackman, John Howard Sanden and Daniel Green. The focus of John's paintings is to bring subjects to life through the relationship of values, composition and supported by the elements of light and color.
