Patrick Neil Christopher, cherished his family
Patrick “Pat” Neil Christopher, 57, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022.
Fondly remembered as Smelt, Smeltie and Melt, Pat had the gift of giving those he loved nicknames that were not only spot-on but stuck for decades! Patrick grew up in Wilmington but spent his childhood summers on the Potomac River at White Point, Md. The best childhood memories and experiences were made with his family in remote St. Mary’s County on the river. His grade school friends looked forward to visiting for extended stays each summer because it was a kid's dream summer experience. Fishing, boating, and crabbing were all part of the summer days spent with his siblings, cousins, and friends.
Patrick was a graduate of Salesianum High School and Arizona State University. It was in Arizona that Pat stayed for many years after he graduated, and truly found a passion for mountain biking and the extreme adventures that outdoor activities have to offer. He welcomed many back-home guests to come to enjoy Arizona and these new interests. He was a loyal ASU fan! Returning to Delaware and Sussex County was where his heart was. Patrick enjoyed hours on his boat fishing, hunting in the winter, cooking, entertaining, and enjoying the Delaware Bay and the relaxed life that came with the area.
He loved his large family and the special occasions they celebrated as the clan grew with more nieces and nephews every year for a decade. Pat’s knowledge of all trivia was impressive. He was an avid reader of many topics including news, politics, sports, and current events. He had an amazing recollection of all details and could recite them in any situation.
Pat was the oldest sibling of five, all of whom reside in Wilmington, and uncle of 11 nieces and nephews. He was the beloved son of Mary and Dick Christopher of Wilmington. He shared much wisdom and kindness with us all. He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends. We will hold close the incredible memories we have and the times we shared, and they will be in our hearts forever.
Pat was predeceased by his niece, Molly. He is survived by his parents, Dick and Mary Christopher; his siblings: Maggie Colman (Mike), R.T. Christopher (Liz), Cathleen Wilder (Peter) and Michael Christopher (Jackie). In addition to his parents and siblings, he is survived by his 10 nieces and nephews, Christopher, Dean, Sean, Katie, Annie, Thomas, Will, Sam, Dylan and Zach.
The family would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be private.
