Pauline ‘Pat’ Stawasz, had so many interests

Pauline "Pat" Stawasz, 100, of (Queens) Middle Village, N.Y., and Rehoboth Beach passed away Friday, April 3, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Rehoboth Beach.  She was born July 10, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late John and Mary Katrine Mudryk.

Mrs. Stawasz worked as an au pair in her youth and as a supervisor at the Domino Sugar factory during World War II.  Her interests were many and varied, and included gardening, home repairs, flea markets, bargain hunting, dancing and buying real estate. Mrs. Stawasz was a faithful member of the Holy Ghost Ukranian Catholic Church of North 5th St., Brooklyn, N.Y,. for over 100 years.  She was a founding member and major contributor of the building fund of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church and Holy Spirit Ukrainian Cemetery.  Mrs. Stawasz put family above all else.  She and her husband Joseph sacrificed and worked hard to make sure their children had everything they needed to make their ways in life. They gifted their children college educations and homes. 

Mrs. Stawasz was a tiny woman with the heart of a giant. With her incredible strenghth, resilience, courage, determination, faith in God, and love and protectiveness, she was a model and inspiration to all the women in her family. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stawasz was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Joseph Stawasz; her sister, Mary Kruh; her brother, John Mudryk; her brother-in-law, John Kruh;  and her nephew, John Joseph Kruh.  She is survived by her son, Joseph John Stawasz of Douglaston, N.Y.;  her daughter, Joan Stawasz DePolo and her husband James of Rehoboth Beach and Middle Village, N.Y.; her grandchildren: Andrei Stawasz and his wife Annette of Atlanta, Ga., Laila El Sharkawi and Adam El Sharkawi of Middle Village; her great-grandson, Chase Pelkola of Atlanta; and her niece, Yvonne Kruh Bezler of Ellenville, N.Y.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all services will be private.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
