Pave paradise to put up a parking lot?

August 7, 2018

To quote Joni Mitchell's 1970 hit song "Big Yellow Taxi."

Haven't we learned anything in 48 years?

The beaches and the dunes are our assets. The focus of the leadership in the town of Lewes should be to preserve its charm and environmental beauty.

We have a huge parking lot at the Cape Henlopen High School which is completely unused all summer long. There is a great source of revenue available for the town by charging a parking fee and using the existing air-conditioned busses, which sit unused all summer, to shuttle people to the beach.

This logical environmentally friendly plan will reduce traffic and more importantly preserve the beautiful and necessary dunes. Additionally, an arrangement with the DART Park and Ride on Route 1 near Five Points could be made to run an Express Bus to the beaches.

These plans are using existing resources to provide revenue, and more importantly, prevent the destruction of any more dunes.
I am against paving paradise to put up a parking lot.
