PAWS for People to host pet therapy information session July 20

July 12, 2018

PAWS for People is conducting free information sessions to help individuals learn about the many benefits of pet therapy and how to become involved with the program.

In the face of widespread publicity about pet therapy and the benefits it provides to people in need, questions have arisen. People wonder whether their pet will pass the test and be a good visitor. They wonder whether they have enough time to commit and whether it will fit in their schedule.

PAWS information sessions are set at 11 a.m., Friday, July 20, and 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at the Milton Public Library, 121 Union St., Milton.

PAWS for People is a volunteer nonprofit organization that provides one-on-one animal-assisted therapy and comfort for children and adults with physical, social and emotional challenges. PAWS therapy pets are gentle, well-trained and certified to interact with people in need of all ages. Currently, PAWs has close to 500 therapy teams visiting more than 160 sites in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.

Visitation sites include hospices, assisted living facilities, Alzheimer’s units, chemotherapy treatment rooms, physical and occupational rehabilitation settings, and drug and alcohol treatment centers. In addition, PAWS for Reading teams provide reading sessions in schools and libraries to help children enjoy reading while improving their literacy skills with the comfort and encouragement of an affectionate cat, dog or bunny.
