June 7, 2019

A 47-year-old Millsboro man was ticketed for being drunk on the highway and other charges after police say he crossed Route 1 near Route 24 and was struck by a vehicle June 3.

The crash happened at 10:50 p.m. as the man walked eastbound across the northbound lanes and stepped in front of a 1998 Chevy Blazer traveling northbound, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Milton, was not injured; he was cited with driving while suspended and no proof of insurance. The pedestrian was taken to Beebe Healthcare with serious injuries. He was cited for drunk on highway, failure to carry a light on a public roadway and not crossing in a marked crosswalk.

Delaware State Police did not released the names of the driver or victim.  According to Cape Gazette policy, their names would not be released because these charges are not felonies.
