Thank you for your police report article in the Sept. 1 edition. I am glad to hear that we have a police department that values the safety of our children enough to post the arrest of a Sussex County man for transporting and abusing a 12-year-old.
I also read that Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, was involved. I have a question: If this organization was launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, why am I just hearing about it now?
These attacks on our children should be front-page news, and the punishments should be swift and harsh on those who are guilty. There are other organizations that get little news time like DATAC, Skull Games and any other organization that is involved in this issue.
Did you know that there are 2,726 pedophiles in Delaware? And that’s just the ones who are registered! Look it up.
Children are headed back to school now, and there are predators there also. Why are we not passing House Bill 113? I believe if a perpetrator who happens to be a teacher – or part of the school staff – knew he or she would not be able to get a pension when retiring, there would be fewer children whose lives would be ruined by these predators. Children cannot save themselves.
