Modest-sized works priced for the gift-giving season
November 18, 2021

Peninsula Gallery is once again hosting its annual Small Jewels exhibition.

Clients can shop early for the holiday season and fall in love with artworks that all cost $500 or less.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27. Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, the gallery team will require timed entry for the reception. To reserve a time slot, call 302-645-0551 or email peninsulagallery1@gmail.com.

A staple in Peninsula Gallery’s exhibition schedule for 18 years, the Small Jewels show is curated to give clients the ability to purchase affordable and sizable original fine art during the gift-giving season, making these items perfect presents for the important people in someone’s life.

The collection features 130 original works from 30 artists. The lineup of local, regional and international participants includes 22 repeat exhibitors and seven artists who are new to the show. The new artists include Aster da Fonseca, Siobhan Duggan, Carol Fastuca, Chloe McEldowney, Amy Shawley Paquette, Susan Shalowitz and Sharon Waltersdorff.

This year’s exhibition is highly diverse, with works done in oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor and silkscreen, as well as uncommon techniques like Sumi-e ink wash and tape collage. The works encompass a wide variety of subject matters from animals and landscapes to still lives and contemporary abstracts.

“Each year, it’s very exciting to get the show up on the walls. It’s always sort of a shock walking into a room lined with so many paintings,” said Tony Boyd-Heron, gallery co-owner.

Small Jewels is on display through Friday, Dec. 31. Works from the show can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and are available for presale.

The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon, 520 East Savannah Road, Lewes.
