Peninsula Gallery to host Small Jewels exhibit reception Nov. 24

November 16, 2018

Peninsula Gallery will open an exhibition of small works especially for the holiday season with a reception set for 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24. With more than 20 different artists taking part, there will be in excess of 100 small paintings on display, all priced under $600.

“This will be our 15th annual holiday show,” said Tony Boyd-Heron, who owns the gallery with his wife Carol. “This year, our clients will find work by many of the local and regional artists that we represent, but I am also using this show to introduce some new artists. As an example, after a recent trip to Canada, I contacted an artist in South Eastern Ontario called Hanna MacNaughtan. I had seen her work in Montreal. Her main inspiration comes from movement and reflections on water, as well as the colors, textures and sounds of nature. Her goal is to move away from the familiar imagery of nature and create a unique visual semi-abstract presentation.”

Another new artist is Karash Payne. Her work explores the concept of change through the transformative lens of water. She places her figurative subjects on, in, and under water. Their forms are revealed and dissolved in an elegant dance between flesh, fabric, hair and water.

Yet another newcomer is Rick Phillips from Claymont. He combines his ability to paint quickly and boldly with a great interest in the work of the 19th century impressionists. His still life works in the show feature red and yellow tulips painted with bold, broad brushstrokes accentuated by the use of large quantities of paint.
