People really blinded by the truth

August 10, 2020

I am saddened after reading a letter from Ms. Cabry, the chair of the Progressive Democrats of Sussex County, rebuking Dennis Forney’s Barefootin commentary of July 17, regarding militant groups coming in from out of Delaware to sow violence and looting under the cover of peaceful demonstrations throughout the state.  Ms. Cabry goes on to say that she and her other protestors were “peaceful because we chose to be - not because state troopers were there.”

The protests and marches across Delaware were uniformly professionally being promoted with posters and emails listing scheduled dates, times and locations to meet; as well as the type of clothing to wear.  From one of the posters they advise protestors to prepare by wearing nondescript solid jackets with your names covered, goggles and masks, Printed emergency contact list, Tie your hair up and wear heat resistant gloves.  One of the persons promoting these events wrote on Facebook “No more peaceful protests….. No more praying and forgiving.  We must take our lives in our own hands by any means neessary.  Put down your signs and pick up your arms.”  These to me do not sound like the words of a peaceful-minded person.

Nor do I find vandalizing and breaking into and looting stores at the Dover Mall, nor the assault and beating of a 72-year-old photojournalist in Dover after having his vehicle window smashed to be a peaceful protest.  All these actions are criminal in nature, plain and simple, and were terminated once the police arrived.  The same things happened in downtown Wilmington.  Oh, and by the way Ms. Cabry, regarding your reference to Dr. Martin Luther King “went to jail 29 times,” they were for civil disobedience and certainly he would not have accepted people throwing bricks, smashing windows, assaulting the elderly and burning down buildings! Now my next concern is that the Democrat attorney general is not allowing those cases to be prosecuted; perhaps that is the distortion that Ms. Cabry is trying to portray as “peaceful protestors are being distorted by ‘public safety activists.’”  As Delawareans we must be concerned that our rights are being protected by our government.  I think a bipartisan investigation is quite in order to see why these criminals are not being prosecuted.
