You can all thank me for that win. I attended that Phillies game June 4 with my dad and brother. They won by the score of 6-4 to sweep a three-game series from the San Diego Padres. This was the first time in over two weeks the offense had scored more than four runs in a game. As we are all aware, the pitching staff has been carrying the team for most of the last month.

On Wednesday, Cristopher Sanchez was able to set the record for left-handed pitchers in terms of scoreless innings with 50.2. His streak was stopped there, which means he is fifth overall in baseball history for scoreless innings. Pretty impressive.

Thursday's pitcher was Zack Wheeler. He has been almost as impressive, and adding to that is the fact that he is coming off his serious injury from last year. He had a no hitter going at least halfway through that game. 

Brandon Marsh, Wheeler and Sanchez should be all-stars this year. That game is in Philadelphia to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country! 

The French Open tennis tournament has been crazy this year. Alexander Zverev, a German, is the big favorite to win on the men’s side. He was the second seed, but probably only the fifth or sixth favorite going into the tournament. When Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner lost, I thought Casper Ruud of Norway would have been the next favorite. He lost the next day. So we’ll see who ultimately wins the tournament.

The same thing happened on the women’s side, all of the favorites lost. Maja Chwalinska, a pretournament qualifier, has made it to the finals, and she will face another first-time grand slam finalist, Mirra Andreeva. I have no clue who will survive that matchup. The finals are Saturday and Sunday, and will be fun to watch. 

Cape Henlopen went one for two in the lacrosse state finals. The girls' team won a very competitive game against Tower Hill by the score of 17-11. It was back and forth until the fourth quarter when Cape pulled away. The Vikings' offense was virtually unstoppable, but Tower Hill did stay with them until the fourth quarter.  The Vikings have won 95% of the lacrosse championships in the 20-year history of women’s high school lacrosse in Delaware. That’s pretty incredible. 

On the boys' side, Salesianum dominated the game from start to finish. They won going away 15-5. Their offense completely overwhelmed the Vikings. I was expecting a much closer game, but it didn’t happen. These two teams have dominated the state finals for eight of the last nine years. The Vikings had a very successful season overall and there is a very good chance this match up will happen again next year too. Here's to a great summer.
