Phyllis M. Collyer, vivacious personality

March 17, 2019

Phyllis M. Collyer, 90, of Millsboro, formerly of Fort Myers, Fla., and Newark, passed away surrounded by her loving family Friday, March 15, 2019, at her home.

She was born in Randolph, Mass., June 10, 1928, daughter of the late Roy Burton Horton Sr. and the late Lyda Jean (Butler) Horton. Phyllis had worked for several years for Avon in Newark and then had a 23-year career with the Lee County Health Department in Fort Myers, before retiring in the early 1990s.

Phyllis had a larger than life personality.  She loved being around people, especially her family and was always ready to have a good time. Her quick wit and colorful language would always keep you on your toes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Collyer in 1970; a brother, Roy Burton Jr.; a sister, Barbara Duncan and a great-granddaughter, Sara Ranae.  Phyllis is survived by her six daughters, Diane Ash (Tommy), Reenie Knapp (Jack), Tricia Sulecki (Kenny), Phyllis Lowman (Booty), Bonnie Brinkley and Kathy Beavers (Roger); 19 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 20, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Hwy., New Castle, where friends and family may gather after 1 p.m.  Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.  In memory of Phyllis’ vivacious personality, the family would encourage you to wear something with a leopard print to her service.
