Police find about 7,800 bags of heroin during traffic stop

A Millsboro man faces drug charges after police say they found about 7,800 bags of heroin inside his vehicle. 

James Eley, 33, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer about 7 p.m. Dec. 13 when he failed to use a turn signal while making a turn from Old Landing Road onto Iron Branch Road near Millsboro, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police.

During a traffic stop, Jaffe said, Eley tried to flee on foot before he was apprehended. Police searched his vehicle and found about 7,800 bags of heroin weighing 54.6 grams and more than $500 in suspected drug proceeds, she said.

Eley was transported to Troop 4 where he was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 4 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a tier 5 quantity, resisting arrest, failure to signal and failure to have registration plate light. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $61,000 cash only bond.
