Delaware State Police have identified a 20-year-old woman who died Sept. 16 after police say she crashed her vehicle into a tree west of Millsboro and the vehicle caught fire.
Demizha Sondrell Romance Sturgis of Wyoming was driving a 2004 Honda Accord at 11:09 a.m. eastbound on Indian Town Road near Hudson Road when she rounded a left curve at an apparent high rate of speed and on the wrong side of road, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police. After nearly striking another vehicle head-on, Jaffe said, Sturgis lost control of her vehicle, causing it to exit the roadway into the dense woods, where the car crashed head-on into a pine tree. Before the car was consumed by fire, a passerby pulled the woman from the car. The Good Samaritan, a local resident, also performed CPR prior to the arrival of emergency responders, Jaffe said.
Sturgis was not properly restrained in her vehicle. She was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Indian Town Road was closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
