Delaware State Police are investigating a crash involving a tractor trailer and a Ford pickup on southbound Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach.
At about 11 p.m., April 26, a 63-year-old Lewes man driving a 2000 Ford Ranger exited Miller Road and pulled into the path of a 2018 Kenworth T880 tractor trailer, driven by a 48-year-old Georgetown man, traveling southbound on Route 1. The tractor trailer struck the driver’s side of the pickup and sent it spinning, eventually coming to rest on the sidewalk.
The Lewes man was transported to Beebe Healthcare with serious injuries and later transferred to Christiana Hospital. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.
Alcohol and drugs are not a factor for either driver, police say.
Two southbound lanes of Coastal Highway were closed for about three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. One lane remained open.
The crash remains under investigation.
