Police: Man chokes and hits fiancée with gun

February 9, 2018

A Millsboro man faces charges after police say he choked and dragged his fiancée before striking her with a gun.

The incident occurred around 3:26 p.m. Feb. 7 when troopers were called to the 24000 block of White Street, Shawn’s Hideaway, for a physical domestic complaint, said Master Cpl. Melissa Jaffe of the Delaware State Police. Jaffe said Mark R. Reedy, 53, fought with his fiancée, dragging her by the hair and choking her.

Reedy then obtained a black semiautomatic handgun from inside the home and struck the victim on the back of her head. He then indicated that he was going to kill her and himself, Jaffe said. The victim was able to flee on foot to a neighbor’s residence where she was taken to a local hospital and treated for assault-related injuries, Jaffe said.

Prior to police arrival, Jaffe said, Reedy fled the residence on a golf cart and was later located riding around the park in the camping section of the development; he was taken into custody without incident.  A black semiautomatic handgun was recovered and seized from the residence where the incident occurred, Jaffe said.

Reedy was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with aggravated menacing, strangulation, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, third-degree assault, terroristic threatening and unlawful imprisonment. He was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $65,000 secured bond.
