A Seaford man faces charges after police say he struck a man in the head with a metal cane in Grove Park.
Charles Lecates, 66, was in the park at 10 a.m. June 30 when he confronted a man coming out of a bathroom stall, said Lt. Jaime Riddle of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department. The two knew each other from a previous dispute, he said.
Riddle said Lecates used a metal cane to hit the man in the back of his head, causing injury. When police arrived, Riddle said, Lecates was still in Grove Park with the cane. Police also found a large concealed knife on him, he said.
Lecates was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a weapon in a safe zone, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and disorderly conduct. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $75,500 secured bail.
