A Millsboro man faces charges after police say he crashed into three patrol cars and then assaulted a police dog when police tried to arrest him.

Dwayne Wiltbank Jr., 37, was recklessly driving about 10 a.m. Oct. 10 in the Holly Lake Campground when he intentionally drove head-on into a marked police vehicle, said Cpl. Jason Hatchell of the Delaware State Police.

Wiltbank then put his vehicle in reverse and and struck another police vehicle, Hatchell said, but he was unable to flee the scene. Police used a K9 to try to apprehend Wiltbank but it was unsuccessful after he began assaulting the dog, Hatchell said. Police finally Tasered Wiltbank inside his car and took him into custody.

Wiltbank was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries caused during the incident; troopers were not injured but three police vehicles were damaged, Hatchell said.

Wiltbank was charged with two counts felony possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts first-degree reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer signal, second-degree assault of a law enforcement animal, driving under the influence of a drug, and other charges.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $63,600 cash bond.
