Police: Woman assaults, points gun at boyfriend

September 20, 2017

A Middletown woman faces charges after police say she assaulted her boyfriend and pointed a gun at him.

Kimberley C. Cook, 54, was in a home in the 21000 block of Catalina Circle in the Sawgrass Development of Rehoboth Beach at 2:57 a.m. Sept. 20 when the incident happened, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Fournier said the boyfriend had just fallen asleep when he awoke to Cook lying on top of him. She struck the boyfriend several times and held her arm across his neck, cutting off his airway, Fournier said.

The boyfriend then bit Cook's forearm and pushed her off before gathering his belongings to leave. Cook opened a nightstand drawer and removed a handgun from a holster, pointing the gun at him and telling him he wasn't allowed to leave, Fournier said. The boyfriend calmed the situation by talking to Cook, and then disarming her before calling 9-1-1, he said.

Cook was taken to Troop 7 where she was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, strangulation, aggravated menacing and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. She was arraigned at Justice of the Peace court 2 and released on $31,000 unsecured bond.
