November 29, 2022

Police are searching for a woman after they say she pepper sprayed a grocery store employee who tried to stop her leaving with a cart full of goods Nov. 27.

Police were called at 7:35 p.m. to the Safeway at 19283 Coastal Highway after a woman tried to steal a cart of personal care items, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

When an employee confronted the woman, he said, the woman pushed the cart of goods into the employee and pulled pepper spray from her shirt. The woman then sprayed the employee before leaving with most of the items in her cart. She was last seen driving away in a large, older-model, black SUV westbound on Miller Road. Police were unable to find her or the vehicle following the incident.

The woman is described as white with blonde hair, wearing dark jeans, a turquoise long-sleeved shirt, black gloves and a face mask.

Delaware State Police Troop 7 continues to investigate this case. Troopers ask anyone with information regarding this suspect to contact Cpl. A. Stimac at 302-703-3299. Information may also be provided by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or www.delawarecrimestoppers.com.
