Police: Woman tackles elderly woman in Georgetown

October 14, 2019

A 22-year-old Georgetown woman faces charges after police say she tackled an elderly woman Oct. 13.

An elderly woman, 75, had left a store in Georgetown Plaza when a car was parked along the sidewalk, blocking a ramp to enter the parking lot, said Detective Joey Melvin of the Georgetown Police Department.

While the elderly woman was speaking to the unidentified driver about moving the vehicle away from the ramp, Melvin said, Brianna Dadds approached and tackled the woman to the ground. Dadds then got into the car, which drove away.

Witnesses responded to the elderly woman who was taken to the hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. Witnesses also gave police the registration number of the vehicle; police went to the address on record and took Dadds into custody without incident, Melvin said.

Dadds was charged with felony second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. She was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution pending arraignment.
