Possums’ fundraiser to celebrate Oscars Feb. 23

February 20, 2019

It’s countdown time for the Academy Awards and for the Night at the Oscars fundraiser at Possum Hall. With a look backstage and under the stage lights of Oscar night, Possum Point Players will share their idea of what the scene at the Academy Awards is really like. A Night at the Oscars: Let It Go is set to take the stage at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23.

The evening features entertainment, food and drink and a live auction.  Tickets are $80 each or $150 a couple, and can be purchased by calling 302-856-4560 or at www.possumpointplayers.org.

The Oscar-winning music performed will include songs such as “My Heart Will Go On,” “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head,” “Moon River,” “The Way We Were” and “Beauty and the Beast.” The music choices and script creation came from a collaboration by well-known area theatre personalities Donna de Kuyper and Doug Yetter. The two are co-directors and Yetter is the music director. The duo assembled a cast that includes Claudius Bowden, Max Dick, John Hulse, Dulcena Kemmerlin and Lorraine Steinhoff. Also appearing are Dawn Conaway, Kyra Cutsail, Alonzo Dixon, Val Harmon and John Zinzi. Jim Hartzell and Don Megee serve as dapper hosts for the night of Oscar presentations. The show switches back and forth from backstage bickering of de Kuyper and Yetter characters to the hosts who keep the songs coming.

The night begins with heavy hors d’oeuvres and complimentary cocktails which can be enjoyed after the paparazzi greets everyone entering on the red carpet. Dress is black-tie optional. Following happy hour, audience members are invited to refill their beverages and settle in the theatre for a selection of Oscar-winning songs that range from decades ago to those from recent years.

Before leaving their seats to share champagne and dessert with the cast, audience members will have a chance to pick up exclusive items in a live auction. Among auction items are a week at a resort location, a painting by artist Kim Klabe, a collection of potables from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, designer accessories, Baltimore Ravens’ game tickets and a one-of-a-kind handmade quilt. A generous member is donating two season tickets for 10 years of Possum Point Players’ productions. The list of live auction items is not long, so audience members have a chance to move quickly and score a treasure.

Complimentary champagne and dessert and a visit with the cast will provide a sweet ending to a sumptuous evening.

Tickets are limited. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 302-856-4560 or go to www.possumpointplayers.org.
