Professional actors to give ‘Gravediggers’ dramatic reading Oct. 23

Professional actor and author Dan McCormick will join Cape May Stage Artistic Director Roy Steinberg at the Lewes Public Library for a dramatic reading of McCormick’s acclaimed new work “Gravediggers,” at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23.

Written in 2020 in response to current events, “Gravediggers” is the tale of two men digging a grave in the context of a worldwide pandemic. Already off to a successful start, “Gravediggers” has played off-Broadway at the Abingdon Theatre in New York City and was featured on New Mexico’s NPR affiliate KUNM. Audience members will be treated to a powerful evening of reader’s theater, filled with humor, suspense, pathos – and a surprise ending.

McCormick is rapidly establishing himself as an artist of note, both as a performer and as a creative artist. His piece, “The Violin,” was developed in part at the Actors Studio and played at 59E59 Theatre in New York City before moving to the Ungelt Theatre in Prague, where it is now playing for a second year. McCormick also performs regularly as an actor with the Recording Academy and the New Jersey Repertory Company.

Steinberg is a journeyman professional actor and director. He has appeared in Broadway and off-Broadway productions, regionally at the Kennedy Center and in the New York Shakespeare Festival, and across the country. With a master’s degree in fine arts from Yale, Steinberg has taught college-level acting and directing, and has worked as a producer and director for CBS, NBC and ABC. He has received four Emmy nominations for that work.
