Proposed Rehoboth shuttle raises concerns

January 17, 2020

My brother and I co-own a home in South Rehoboth which has been in our family since 1951. The Rehoboth city commission is considering a proposal by Jolly Trolley to run a shuttle bus through residential streets during the summer.  Part of the proposal would have the city contribute some money toward the cost.

Several questions come to mind:  Would adding a shuttle bus to residential streets make summer traffic even worse?  Can narrow residential streets safely accommodate a shuttle bus in addition to existing traffic (cars and bicycles) and parking?  Would shuttle stops be located in front of residences?  If so, what do those residents think of that?

Should the city pick up part of the cost of a service that Rehoboth homeowners are not likely to use?  I look forward to a full airing of these issues.
