In 2002 Delaware passed legislation banning smoking in restaurants, and the sky didn’t fall. Remember all the doom and gloom people who were saying that if anti-smoking legislation passed, the restaurants would lose money and restaurant employees would suffer? Well, those of us with intact memories know that didn’t happen - restaurant revenues went up.
Now we’re hearing that wind farms off the coast will destroy our property values. That won’t happen. Just like anti-smoking legislation didn’t destroy our restaurants’ economies, wind farms won’t destroy our property values.
There has been no evidence to support the claim that wind farms will destroy property values - just a well-orchestrated attempt at mass hysteria.
Hey, I live in one of the most energy-efficient houses you can find. So what? I have a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, so what? This is about producing clean energy.
Global warming is real. We need to break our dependency on fossil fuels and move toward renewable energy. That’s it. The rest is nonsense.
Lewes is one of the most desirable communities in the state. It’s most prominent feature is a tall windmill on the UD campus. Since it was built nine years ago, property values have gone up, and more and more people are coming to the beach. The windmill was irrelevant in terms of property values. It has provided millions of kilowatts of clean energy though.
In the interest of full disclosure, no one in our household was ever a former officer of the Heritage Foundation.
