VIA provides holiday gifts for neediest citizens

January 18, 2020

The Village Improvement Association’s fourth annual holiday gift-giving project proved wonderfully successful.

The beneficiaries of this project are the area’s many displaced teens, and men and women in nursing homes who are alone. VIA members contributed time, effort and funds to provide gifts and a holiday lift to the neediest citizens of the area, populations that are often overlooked at holiday time.

Project Co-chair Carolyn Billingsley said VIA members responded with amazing generosity, raising more than $3,000 at the fundraiser gathering Dec. 5.

Committee members reaped even more in discounts and donations from area stores. Walmart contributed $500, and LogoMotive Design and Grotto Pizza were very generous.

Volunteers wrapped and bagged items for the 23 disadvantaged teens and nine elderly residents and delivered them in time for Christmas.

Members of the VIA, women from all walks of life, make extraordinary contributions to this community. Their dedication, concern and time are given freely to make the Cape Henlopen School District a wonderful place for all.
